Verbier is an incredible place to learn to ski. It is however, a notoriously steep mountain, so being armed with some knowledge of the best way to progress through the slopes before your holiday will go a long way to helping you enjoy it. The best beginner slope in Verbier is called Les Esserts and is situated just above the centre of Verbier. It’s the best beginner slope you could ask for, with a gentle slope with a magic carpet and a bigger slope served by a drag lift. This is the first picture showing the magic carpet on the right hand side as you up the slope. It spends most of the day in the sun, so don’t forget your sun cream! To get there, jump on the Hameau bus from Medran, or ask your hotel concierge if they can organise you a shuttle.
Once you have gained confidence turning and controlling speed at Les Esserts, our next favourite place to ski is at Savoleyres. There’s a brilliant and very long blue run, Taillay. It’s not only a gentle pitch, but also very wide and quiet, giving you the space to practice your turns. To get to Savoleyres there is a short bus journey from Medran, you can get any of the big buses as they all go to the Savoleyres lift.
When the turns are feeling good, the next step is to ski in Verbier. You can choose to ski in either Lac Des Vaux or La Chaux, which both offer more challenging blue runs to prepare you for the reds that Verbier has so many of. Make sure while skiing in La Chaux to stop at Le Dahu to take in the magnificent views of Grand Combin over a pizza.
Getting around Verbier, is admittedly a lot to think about at first, so make sure to fully familiarise yourself with the piste map and how to get around before heading up.
