If your travelling to Morzine as a Family then you are in the good company, and here is why.
Morzine has an interesting history that dates back over 1000 years and has been the home to Monks, Miners and Farmers. All before becoming the hub of skiing and mountain biking that it is now. In fact the Monetary is still visible when driving up through Saint-Jean-d’Aulps on the way to Morzine.
One of the great things about Morzine is the fact it was never a purpose built ski resort so it has the charm of a local town. It also means everything isn’t set on a hill, which makes moving around a whole lot easier. Especially when you are travelling with children!
Its location means its one of the closest ski resorts to Geneva Airport, meaning we sometimes have people fly out in the morning and take part in ski lessons in the afternoon. With transfer journeys only taking 80 minutes for Geneva and for those driving to Morzine its about 9 hours from Calais.
Due to Morzine being set at 900m the town itself and some of the skiing is low and in the trees. There are many benefits to this, like being sheltered from the more extreme weather and temperature that can be experienced in higher resorts.
Access to the beginner and children areas is very easy, the Pleney Bubble leaves from in Morzine itself and is easy to get to via foot or chalet van drop-offs. From the top of the bubble the beginner area is directly ahead. It has been expanded over the last couple of winters and is now a large covered carpet. This is great for learning to ski on a is perfect for ski lessons.
Once proficient on the beginner slope it is an easy transition onto the piste to ski down past the bubble and to the Nabor Chairlift. This then allows a smooth progression onto blue runs and the eventual leap onto Les Gets and all the skiing on offer there. The key to this is to use the ‘facile’ route off to the left of the steep section on the way to the Folliets du Golf chairlift.
In the evening there are the obvious bars and restaurants that we list on our resort page for Morzine. There is also a cinema that shows most of the main stream movies in English. Look for the V.O (Version Original) sign next to the titles at Cinema Rex on the main street.
If sledging takes yours or the children’s fancy then there is a dedicated area at the bottom of the Crusaz Chairlift thats open all day. Or the more full on session for sledging is in the evening where you can have a guided tour of the Pleney slopes from 17:30 each day. This is a great to days hard skiing and in combination with a ski lesson will definitely guarantee a good nights sleep.
There are a couple of options for swimming. A large indoor pool in Morzine town centre and then a Water Park in called Aquariaz that has a tropical theme with slides, climbing and some spa features.
